On Sunday, March 31, a couple of members and vocational instructor, Philip Boyer, took a beautiful drive out to Longboat Key to visit Longboat Island Chapel. Our destination turned out to be a picturesque white church with a trellis and fountain with well-kept gardens surrounding the property. The occasion was an invitation to represent our Academy at their annual event when the Chapel gives space in their lobby for community social service organizations to share their mission.
After setting up our table and being warmly greeted by churchgoers, we were welcomed to enjoy the service where we introduced ourselves to the congregation and shared briefly about the Academy. The hymns in the service echoed off the walls of the sanctuary as the sun beamed through the windows. After the service, we staffed our table in the lobby to answer questions and share our stories. In addition to the Academy, there were other organizations such as Teen Court, Agape Flights, and Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy (SMART).
Upon leaving the church we visited the flower garden in the back where we took a picture, rested by a dock on the canal, and talked with two ladies who were interested in our organization. Hopefully, this very friendly church will welcome us back next year to promote our program to their congregation again.
