Director of Career Services (Employment Specialist)

The Academy is seeking a compassionate and motivated candidate to serve as Director of Career Services to provide career development and job placement opportunities to Academy members at our Sarasota and Bradenton campuses. We are seeking a high-energy candidate who thrives on teamwork and service to others.

Employment Overview

Assist Academy members (adults living with mental illnesses) acquire and retain employment by providing individualized support and career development while developing partnerships with local employers.

  • Vocational Support & Career Planning: Build rapport with Academy members; conduct assessments of member strengths, interests, and employment barriers; develop individualized career plans.
  • Job Development & Placement: Identify job openings that match Academy member skill sets; assist with resume building and completion of job applications; provide interview preparation; and place members into employment.
  • Coaching & Retention: Provide on-the-job support/training during placement; negotiate any necessary accommodations; implement strategies to ensure job retention.
  • Employer Engagement: Establish and cultivate partnerships with local businesses to create job opportunities; educate employers about Academy services.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Fulfill reporting and billing requirements in accordance with Division of Vocational Rehabilitation guidelines.

Mission Overview

The Academy at Glengary and Academy at Bradenton provide a pathway to success, friendship, and careers for adults seeking mental health wellness. Membership at the Academy provides access to both Sarasota and Bradenton facilities, and features a range of self-directed opportunities based on the 8 Dimensions of Wellness (intellectual, physical, financial, social, emotional, vocational, environmental, and spiritual).

All Academy positions are hands-on, direct service roles that support the psychosocial rehabilitation process. This includes vocational training, mentoring and coaching duties both on-site as well as at community-based educational and employment settings. Experience working with persons with mental illness or other disabilities is preferred, although not required.

Overview of Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of four years of successful employment experience in career counseling, job placement, job coaching, or a public vocational rehabilitation program.
  • Education: Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Social Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Requisite: Possess a valid supported employment training certificate.
  • Language: bilingual English-Spanish a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Adaptability
  • Be a non-smoker both on and off site
  • Willingness to submit to alcohol and drug screen upon hiring, and random drug testing while employed
  • Subject to State of Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and local law enforcement checks
  • Valid Florida Driver's License, subject to a DMV records check and approval by Academy at Glengary, Inc., insurance carrier
  • Possess a privately owned vehicle or must be able to access locations, possibly at a moment's notice, that may not be accessed by public transportation

Compensation

Starting salary is $60,000/year.
