The Academy is expanding its services with the opening of Academy at Bradenton in Manatee County. We will offer skill training, community supports and job placement to adults recovering from mental illness. The Academy seeks a high energy, compassionate candidate who thrives on teamwork and service to others.

Employment Overview

All Academy positions are hands-on, direct service roles that support the rehabilitation process. This includes training and coaching duties both on-site as well as at community-based employment settings. Experience working with persons with mental illness or other disabilities is preferred, although not required.

The Kitchen manager / Chef Instructor is a full-time position whose primary duties include:

• Responsible for hands-on preparation of healthy meal options (breakfast and lunch)
• Work side-by-side with Academy members (adults living with disabilities) in all aspects of culinary operations: menu planning, inventory, purchasing, meal preparation, service, food safety, sanitation and clean-up.
• Co-manage Academy kitchen and dining room.
• Role model professional workplace behaviors, attitudes and relationships.
• Operate computers, cash register, electronic devices and commercial kitchen equipment.
• Assume additional vocational rehabilitation responsibilities, as assigned.

Overview of Requirements

• Education: High School diploma/GED and Culinary Arts degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience: 2-5 years culinary experience preferred
• Possess ServSafe certificate or willing to get certified
• Knowledge of procedures and standards for Safety and Sanitation
• A passion for cooking, service and helping others.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Adaptability
• Be a non-smoker both on and off site.
• Willingness to submit to alcohol and drug screen upon hiring, and random drug testing while employed.
• Subject to State of Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and local law enforcement checks Valid Florida Driver's License, subject to a DMV records check and approval by Academy at Glengary, Inc., insurance carrier.
• Possess a privately owned vehicle or must be able to access locations, possibly at a moment's notice, that may not be accessed by public transportation.
