Our Mission and Values

The Academy's mission statement

Our Mission

Create a working community where adults can improve mental health through friendship, healthy lifestyles, skill development, and careers.

Thanks to a unique collaboration between public and private sectors, the Academy engages community leaders, family members, businesses, human service providers, and partners in the process of improving lives. Isolation and marginalization are replaced with community reintegration, goal attainment, and purpose.

Our Values

At the Academy, members and staff take pleasure in the daily practice of our values.

Partnership

At the Academy, members and staff work side-by-side. Whether it's providing tours for guests, producing healthy meals or designing marketing brochures, our community shares work in a broad range of shared objectives. Members contribute their talents and skills, and they are stakeholders in the success of our mission.

Respect and Dignity

The inherent worth of every individual is forefront in our minds. From the care that we put into maintaining our facility, to the way in which we communicate, we foster respect without judgment. This creates a safe environment for members to step out of their comfort zone, even amidst challenges. It’s here where members develop resilience, and ultimately, exceed expectations.

Service

Members and staff are deeply committed in their service to each other. We extend this value of service to our guests, family members, and the greater Sarasota community. We believe that giving is the path to true self-worth.

Wellness

Our recovery approach is built upon the principle of wellness. We focus on strengths and talents, rather than symptoms or disability. We also understand that physical, mental, and social well-being go hand-in-hand, and we seek to promote integrated health in all of our initiatives, based on the 8 Dimensions of Wellness.

World Mental Health Day 2020

The Academy partnered with local mental health agencies in our community to bring awareness to mental health recovery. (2 minutes)
